Check It Out

Following up on the news that Ejike Adele will grad transfer from Dartmouth to Rice, The Roost – which covers the Owls program – has a piece that includes this (LINK):

The pipeline connecting Rice football recruiting and the Ivy Leagues continues to push talented football players from the Northeast to South Main. A year removed from landing standout Dartmouth defensive end Charlie Looes, Rice has picked up a commitment from his former teammate. Defensive end and reigning Ivy League defensive player of the year Ejike Adele has committed to the Owls.

“I had heard great things about the team and the program from my former teammate Charlie Looes,” Adele told The Roost. “I was already familiar with Coach Abell and his staff since they recruited me out of high school when they were at Davidson. I could sense a lot of excitement about the program on my visit and it felt like they were developing a family atmosphere that I want to be a part of.”

A FootballScoop posting (LINK):

As noted previously, hormer defensive backs (secondary) coach Aaron Larkins left after two seasons to join the staff at Appalachian State. (LINK

Still on the subject of job openings on the top floor of Floren Varsity House, apparently FootballScoop got it right the first time. The ad referenced here a week ago about the Big Green being in the market for a new offensive coordinator was, in fact, looking for someone for that position.

A trio of reader have done the detective work and sent along a link to the actual Dartmouth job posting for an offensive coordinator. From that posting (LINK):

The Offensive Coordinator plays a critical role in achieving the overall goals of the football program by coordinating the offense and providing important recommendations, suggestions and decisions regarding game plans and strategies, line-ups, priority listing of recruits, etc. as well as offering significant initiative and independent judgment (e.g., in calling offensive plays, making line-up decisions, providing coaching instruction, evaluating and communicating with prospective recruits and their parents, and representing the football program to constituents).

The "help wanted" also appears in High Ed Jobs, and even on Linkedin.

In case you missed it, here is the College GameDay piece about Princeton alum Tiger Bech that aired prior to the national championship game:

EXTRA POINT

It was seven degrees when I was blazing a trail through several inches of new powder yesterday afternoon on my daily ± 3-mile hike up, over, and around our nearby mountain. That may not sound particularly inviting, but as they say in the Nordic world (or maybe it's LL Bean who says it ;-):

"There’s no such thing as bad weather. Only bad clothing.”

Dressed appropriately, I wasn't cold in the slightest as I got my daily workout in, all the while admiring the beauty of the new fallen snow and studying the variety of animal tracks that led me up and down the trail.

When the temperature falls here (and it was 11-below this morning) I sometimes find myself contemplating life in areas of the country that don't have to deal with that kind of biting cold. But some of those other places have hurricanes or tornados. Some have earthquakes, extreme heat or wildfires. I thought about all of that, and I thought about how I could layer up as much as I needed to be outside, and I realized once again, the cold isn't so bad after all.
