The Buddy Way

This landed in my "in" box earlier in the week:

From the email with the invitation:
ABOUT THE BUDDY WAY
A comprehensive look at the life and legacy of College Football coach Buddy Teevens—celebrating his revolutionary impact on player safety, his groundbreaking no-tackle innovations, and the compassion that made him a beloved leader both on and off the field. From lifelong friendships to hard-fought victories, Buddy’s story is one of innovation, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to leaving the game better than he found it.

Green Alert Take: I haven't been able to find anything online about the new film. And, as you might have guessed, I won't be heading to NYC for the screening.

Dartmouth quarterback recruit Jaden Cummings has been named the "Live 5 Friday Night Lights Player of the Year" for his performance last fall at South Carolina's Summerville HS. The Charleston, S.C. TV station has both a video about the honor and these thoughts on its web page (LINK):

Cummings, who has been named the 1st team QB on the All-Friday Night Lights team for 2 seasons in a row, helped lead the Green Wave to the 5A-1 state championship game in 2024.

And . . .

For the season, Cummings completed 70% of his passes throwing for 2541 yards with 30 touchdowns and just 1 interception. He also contributed on the ground rushing for 620 yards and 15 scores.

“He’s the All-American kid. He’s the kind of kid you dream of to lead your program.” Summerville head coach Ian Rafferty said. “I told him when he got here its not gonna be easy being the qb at Summerville high school, but he sure made it look easy.”

In his 2 seasons as the Green Wave starting QB after transferring from Hanahan, Cummings went 26-2.

The Stanford Rivals page Cardinal Sports Report catches us up on former Dartmouth defensive back Jordan Washington's commitment to Stanford. From the story (LINK):

For his career, Washington has 72 total tackles (59 solo), 20 pass deflections, 6.5 tackles for loss, and one interception. This past season as a senior, Washington had 30 total tackles (26 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, 11 pass deflections, and one interception, which was returned 58 yards for a touchdown.

What Washington will bring to Stanford is a lot of experience in the secondary, something that Stanford sorely needed entering this transfer portal season. The biggest question with Washington is how well he will make the jump from the Ivy League to the ACC. That’s a pretty big jump, but his ability to tackle and play with physicality is something that should translate well. It’ll be fun to see what he brings to the Cardinal and what kind of impact he makes on the secondary in 2025.

EXTRA POINT
As someone who has spent a little time in the press box at Penn State's Beaver Stadium, I can tell you this is way overdue. It's part of a $700 million renovation to the stadium.

Gotta say, that was a lot more dramatic than when Dartmouth took down the old Memorial Field press box. ;-)
