It's Official (But We Knew That)

Dartmouth made the addition of Central Connecticut to the football schedule official with the announcement of next fall's schedule:

The college has a release HERE.

As long as the topic is schedules, following up on last week's list of non-conference opponents for Ivy League football teams in 2025, here's everything we know about who Ancient Eight teams will be playing outside of conference in years to come, courtesy of FB Schedules. Dartmouth is not listed in 2026 because there is no information available on who the Big Green will be playing (although a visit to Lehigh is rumored).*

* The non-conference opponents were compiled largely by FBSchedules, which works backward  to slot in games for schools like Dartmouth that have not posted updated schedules. As an example, the 2029 Dartmouth game at Towson does not show up on Dartmouth's football site, but appears because Towson has reported it.

EXTRA POINT

Whether it's ice on the wires, heavy snow, strong wind or just plain bad luck, we lose power frequently here at our rural Vermont hillside home. When we bought this home it came with a contractor-grade, whole-house generator to deal with those outages. Unfortunately, the thing is incredibly loud, uses a lot of gasoline, has to be rolled out into the driveway even in nasty weather, and is tricky to operate. That being the case, we looked into getting a power wall back when we had our solar tracker installed, but the company that was doing the work suggested holding off and adding a battery pack later after prices came down. When "later" came, we learned of issues that made adding the battery impractical. I even looked into adding an expensive propane generator that kicks on automatically when the power goes out.

Fortunately, a cheaper solution is at hand. Our new Hyundai EV has what is called V2L (Vehicle to Load), that will allow us to use the car's large battery pack to run the important functions in our house (refrigerator, freezer, well pump, lights, etc.) for several days if need be. Around lunchtime today our electrician is coming by to walk us through dos and don'ts involved in safely plugging our house into the car and not blowing anything up and then we should be good to go.

I'm not about to root for a power outage to try the new system out anytime soon, but I have to admit I'm kind of looking forward to the next time the lights go out. ;-)
