All Quiet On The Dartmouth Front

A second consecutive day with nothing of note to report from the Dartmouth football world, but you might find this interesting. Can you imagine another Ivy League president doing this?

From the story (LINK):
A professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Beilock won the 2017 Troland Award from the National Academy of Sciences for her research on performance under pressure and is also a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.

“Dartmouth has a long history of presidents being in the classroom, and it’s an honor to follow in that tradition,” says Beilock. “It’s been especially fun to see the excitement that the students have in thinking about how they might use sports in their careers.”

Green Alert Take: Cool stuff. And yeah, I did rearrange the title on the graphic. My days at the newspaper would not allow me to leave the "Co-" at the end of one deck of a headline or the "on" at the end of the second deck. It reads a lot better this way, huh? ;-)

With Ivy League men's basketball announcing its postseason awards yesterday, Dartmouth has swept the coaching staff of the year for hoops and ice hockey, arguably the two most prominent men's winter sports.

Green Alert Take: It's refreshing to see Dartmouth men's basketball and ice hockey showing improvement after languishing for so many years.

Green Alert Take II: It gives hope for the women's basketball and hockey teams that continue to struggle. The women's hockey team, which made it to the Frozen Four in 2001, '03 and '05, had just two losing records in a span of 32 seasons from 1981-82 through 2012-13. It finished 5-21-3 this winter, it's 11th consecutive losing season.

The women's basketball team, which has won a record 17 Ivy League titles, dropped its final 12 games this season to finish 2-12 in the Ivy League and 8-19 overall. The Big Green has enjoyed just one winning season since claiming its last title in 2008-09.

EXTRA POINT

With all the snow we've had this winter, Mrs. BGA's sister and kids planned to come to Vermont for a ski vacation last month. They had to postpone that visit and rescheduled for this weekend. Oops. The temperature could hit 60 degrees Saturday and might top that Sunday, when rain is in the forecast. Anyone up for a Monopoly marathon?
