This And That

After the Dartmouth board of trustees met in Hanover from Feb. 27-March 1, the college news service issued a release headlined Board Considers Strategic Trajectories for the Future; Trustees updated on housing and climate, interact with faculty and students that included this: (LINK):

Mike Harrity, the Haldeman Family Director of Athletics and Recreation, and Chief Health and Wellness Officer Estevan Garcia updated the board on their work, alongside faculty colleagues, to establish the Kirsten and Eugene F. “Buddy” Teevens ’79 Center for Peak Performance.

Dartmouth has launched a search for the center’s inaugural director, formed a working group focused on academic innovation, and is identifying opportunities for more undergraduates to access enhanced leadership development, mental performance training, and nutrition education currently available to student-athletes through Dartmouth Peak Performance.

The Dartmouth ski team finished third in the national championships that concluded yesterday on home snow. From a press release (LINK):

"To do it at home was really special. It's bittersweet, five points out of second. That's close enough that we would really have liked to make that up but we did our best," (director of skiing Cami) Thompson said about the team's performances. "Everyone skied their hearts out this week, so we are proud of the team and where we ended up."

While the Dartmouth season comes to a close and the Big Green skiers continue to compete in different races around the world, Thompson had one final message to the fans and community that showed their support at this year's championship.

"It makes my heart smile to see all these people out here; from generations to Dartmouth skiers, the community," Thompson said.

Thompson, who has been at Dartmouth since 1989 and last hosted a national championship in 2003, added; "We don't normally see crowds like this at Nordic ski races, so it was really special to me."

The national championship Utah side came away impressed. From a story out of the Utes' page (LINK):

"This was just amazing up here, especially in front of this crowd," said director of skiing Fredrik Landstedt. "There's a huge amount of people out here and a band playing. It's just incredible to have this kind of finish."

EXTRA POINT

It took a second visit by the most patient – and generous with his time – electrician you could ever be lucky enough to know. We can now use our Ioniq 5 EV to power our house during outages, which happen not infrequently in our little town. If we are relatively conservative with our power consumption we can run the house for several days if need be.
