Quick Catch-Up

We’re back after a wonderful few days in the White Mountains filled with laughter, love and tears of joy.

While we were gone, The Dartmouth had a story headlined, Tyron Herring ’23 says he owes his NFL deal to Buddy Teevens ’79. In the Q&A with the defensive back who grad transferred to Delaware after two years and earned an undrafted free agent contract with the Packers, Herring said (LINK):

(Buddy Teevens) wanted a good football player when it was football time, a good student when it was student time and he wanted a good man all the time. That was his mantra.

I don’t just embody that in sports, I embody that in life. I credit my time, all the things I’ve taken from Delaware, and the way I’ve conducted myself [to] Buddy Teevens and his wife.

And this from Saturday’s Green-White game:

Green Alert Take: I asked coach Sammy McCorkle Thursday if the vote had been conducted. He said yes, and that the players had made terrific choices. Not knowing if there would be two or three captains, I floated a couple of names. A tip of the cap to Coach McCorkle for not giving anything away when both of my predictions would be coming true. ;-)

Old friend Tiger Blog pointed out yesterday that weekend Ivy League titles brought Princeton’s title count this year to 16, "eclipsing the old league record of 15 that Princeton had done on two other occasions. That's 16 Ivy League championships with three still on the table this coming weekend in women's open rowing and men's heavyweight and lightweight rowing.” (LINK)

Green Alert Take: The internet is supposed to make things easier, right? I’d really like to compare-and-contrast on Ivy League titles but clicking through all of the various pages and figuring out real Ivy League titles as opposed to pseudo titles is a handful. It’s on days like this that I’m reminded not all progress is progress. It took all of 30 seconds to find this in an old copy of the late and lamented Ivy League record book on the shelf here at the BGA world headquarters. (Sorry for the scribbling on the page. Apparently I was actually using the record book for research back in my newspaper days. ;-)

EXTRA POINT

With rain early in the day and the forecast gloomy, we traded golf for candlepin bowling in the White Mountains Saturday. The rain backed off as the day went on and pickleball took center stage before going out for a terrific dinner.

Thankfully, Sunday was absolutely glorious on Cathedral Ledge when That Certain Dartmouth ’14 said “I do.” The newlyweds are in the Azores for the next week before returning to their duties (hopefully) working for the National Park Service at Bryce Canyon National Park. ;-)
