Cheers

The grad transfer announcements keep on coming . . .

That's former Dartmouth wide receiver Painter Richards-Baker, a dangerous deep threat whose career with the Big Green was slowed by injury, announcing for Western Carolina. Richards-Baker is from Hillsborough, N.C. Find his bio HERE.

The Dartmouth has a Q&A with Los Angeles Rams president Kevin Demoff '99, an old friend who I got to know when he wrote for The Dartmouth. Referencing the 10-0 Ivy League champions of 1997, Demoff tells The D (LINK):

That game (when they won) the title against Brown, which was the second-to-last game, was one of the best football games I’ve ever seen. No matter whether it was playing in the Super Bowl or playing in playoff games or going to games as a fan, that Dartmouth-Brown game in 1996 was as good as it gets from a fandom perspective, and to get to cover it was even better.

Be sure to visit BGA Overtime today for a story spun out of the final full spring practice last night. I asked coach Sammy McCorkle whether the Ivy League will use helmet communication this fall, what impact the FCS allowing a 12th game might have on the Ivy League, and about the growing number of Dartmouth grad transfers. He spoke about tweaking the offense this spring, about practicing with just two quarterbacks, about a few freshmen who have caught his eye, about recruiting, and the surprising impact the anticipated rain could have on tomorrow's spring game. Find the story HERE.

A VERY SPECIAL EXTRA POINT

Those of you who have been around since BGA began in 2005 read about That Certain Dartmouth '14 when she was playing Little League with the boys. You read about her earning the maximum 12 varsity letters at Hanover High School, and sharing the award as the top female athlete in the school as a senior.

You read about her originally committing to Colgate only to end up instead at Dartmouth, where she was on the track team for a couple of years and ran for student body president while majoring in Earth Science and minoring in education. You've followed her journey as a ranger in the National Park system from Colorado National Monument to Yellowstone, to Grand Canyon, Glacier Bay Alaska, the Everglades, Black Canyon of the Gunnison and now Bryce Canyon.

BGA will be going quiet for the next several days as we celebrate That Certain Dartmouth '14 getting married this weekend on a peak in New Hampshire's White Mountains. The lucky guy is a fellow ranger who happens to be a Red Sox fan, but That Certain Nittany Lion '16 and I – like TCD '14, longtime Yankee fans – don't hold it against him. Mrs. BGA, who grew up rooting for the Red Sox, will finally have an ally in the family ;-)

Because I'll be off on a mountaintop this weekend, you'll have to wait a few days for coverage out of the Green-White spring game. With apologies, the plan is to track down Coach McCorkle next week to get his reflections on what he saw. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that the weather isn't as dire as the forecast suggests. Fortunately, the ceremony will be Sunday afternoon, and as of now the forecast calls for sun.
