The Wrap

I’m in the Chase Field parking lot awaiting the start of practice while I bang out this quick BGA daily post. Check BGA Overtime tonight for a story out of practice.

Dartmouth’s three nonconference opponents were in action yesterday and apart from New Hampshire’s win over North Carolina Central, the results weren’t pretty.

New Hampshire 27, North Carolina Central 10

Playing in the other Durham – North Carolina that is – UNH quarterback Matt Vezza enjoyed his first career start, passing for two touchdowns and running for another. Vezza finished 10-of-17 for 186 yards while accounting for the three TDs. On the minus side, the Wildcats were whistled for 11 penalties. NC Central fell to 1-1 after opening the season with a 31-14 win at Southern.

Boston College 66, Fordham 10

Gunnar Smith completed 20-of-39 passes for 152 yards and James Conway collected 17 tackles for the Rams, who trailed 21-3 at the half and then gave up 24 points in the third quarter.

Connecticut 59, Central Connecticut 13

The Blue Devils took the early lead after a fumble recovery gave them the ball on the Huskies' five-yard line and Elijah Howard ran it in to make it 7-0. But that would be the highlight for Dartmouth’s Week 2 opponent.

In another game of some interest, Merrimack, which took Dartmouth to the final play in last year’s opener, had an FBS win in its sites until a 100-yard kickoff return with 5:28 left brought Kent State from behind to claim a 21-17 win. Notably, the victory was Kent State’s first since Sept. 16, 2023 when it beat . . . wait for it . . . Central Connecticut.

EXTRA POINT

Headed across the parking lot to practice in a second. For what its worth, I could have the EV adding a little range during practice if I wanted. Dartmouth has installed a level 2 charger in the Chase parking lot. That would add roughly 25 miles of range in an hour. Pretty cool.
