BGA Overtime had a notes column go up last night. I’ll be at Dartmouth’s first scrimmage of the preseason this morning, and will have a story for you tonight, so be sure to check back.

SB Nation has a story headlined, Patriots work out group of wide receivers, defensive backs heading into Week 1 and one of the free agent defensive backs listed was Tyron Herring, the Dartmouth grad who spent two seasons as a grad transfer at Delaware before signing an undrafted free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers. He was released last week in the final round of cuts. From the story (LINK):
Herring, 24, joined the Green Bay Packers as a rookie free agent following April’s NFL draft. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound cornerback spent four years at Dartmouth before heading to Delaware in 2023. He went on to serve as a team captain, totaling 72 tackles, four interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 23 games with the Blue Hens. Second-team All-CAA honors and an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl were garnered as a graduate student.

Another former Dartmouth defensive back in the news is Onye Onuoha, now in his second year as a grad transfer at Butler. (BIO). From a story in the Butler Collegian (LINK):
Onuoha is also well-equipped to compare Ivy League football to the PFL after arriving in Indianapolis from Dartmouth.
“On the field, there’s not much of a difference,” Onuoha said. “Size-wise [and] speed-wise it’s all very similar. The competition is the same regardless of where you go.”
More from the story:
Butler consistently recruits transfer players from Ivy League schools to suit up at the Sellick Bowl. From former wide receiver Tyler Adams, who previously played at Harvard, to (former quarterback Nick) Howard, who played most of his collegiate career at Dartmouth, the Bulldogs have familiarity with their fellow Division I non-scholarship conference.
“I think Ivy League guys [have] a great transition coming here because they value the academics,” (Butler director of football operations Ty) Morgan said. “They know that they’re going to work hard on the field, they’re going to work hard in the weight room, but they’re also going to work hard in the classroom. We don’t have to worry about adjusting to the academic rigor that Butler has.”
The headine from the above story should bring a smile to those familiar with Dartmouth coach Sammy McCorkle’s familiar chant. The headline: Butler Football: ‘Finding a way.’ From the story:
No matter the coach in charge, the players on the field or the staff on the sidelines, The Butler Way remains constant, driving the team forward year after year.
“To me, The Butler Way means finding a way,” (Butler defensive back Will) Mason said. “They’re gonna talk about the excuses for if you lose, the reasons you’re not a favorite. All of those excuses that somebody might make, ignoring them and finding a way to win. It’s all about saying, ‘We don’t really care about all the background stuff, the coulda, shoulda, woulda’. It’s about finding a way to succeed.

EXTRA POINT
On a warm early September day I plopped myself down in our beloved ’84 VW poptop camper yesterday to write at the little lake five minutes from our Vermont hillside home. You’ve seen variations of this photo of the BGA mobile office before . . .
