Well-Deserved

After helping Dartmouth earn a dramatic come-from-behind Homecoming win over Yale Saturday afternoon three Big Green players have been honored by the Ivy League.

• Owen Zalc was named the Ivy special teams player of the week for his 51-yard field goal that won the game on the final play of the game.

• Safety Sean Williams was chosen Ivy defensive player of the week for his fourth-quarter interception in Dartmouth territory, five tackles and one pass breakup.

And . . .

• Quarterback Grayson Saunier was named to the Ivy League honor roll after passing for 158 yards, running for 95 yards and two touchdowns, and engineering the 37-second, 42-yard drive that set up Zalc's kick.

Green Alert Take: Four Ivy League teams are either in the FCS Coaches top-25 or "receiving votes" category. Is it me, or do you think now that they are going to the FCS playoffs the coaches are giving them a little more respect?

Green Alert Take II: I was told by a non-Ivy FCS coach once that as long as the Ivies were not going to the playoffs there were coaches who would not vote for them because they thought including them served no purpose.

At 1-5 it's another long season at Fordham but there's been one bright spot for this week's Dartmouth opponent.

#

Saturday's game will be Homecoming for Fordham at Joe Moglia Stadium. Moglia, in case you didn't know, is a Fordham graduate who served as a defensive coach under Joe Yukica at Dartmouth from 1981-83 before embarking on a career in finance that saw him rise to the role of CEO and chairman at TD Ameritrade. He eventually returned to football and went on to coach Coastal Carolina for seven seasons.

The onetime Dartmouth assistant was set to be grand marshal of New York City's Columbus Day parade Monday before it was canceled because of the Nor'easter. Check out a story detailing that honor as well as the native New Yorker's unique career trajectory HERE.

EXTRA POINT

Golden retrievers are bird dogs and if I had been thinking I would have grabbed a picture of Griff the Wonder Dog standing on the couch gazing out the window at the 16 turkeys that were just pecking and grazing in our field on a somewhat rainy morning. Unfortunately I wasn't thinking, so this pic will have to do:
