Panthers Make Offer to Cramer

8:35 a.m. It's just a brief note at the end of this story but the Carolina Panthers have made a qualifying offer to a number of restricted free agents including fullback Casey Cramer, the Dartmouth grad. ... Matt Dougherty of The Sports Network takes a look at the new head coaches at I-AA schools and projects their chances for success. Among those he considers: Norries Wilson of Columbia, Pete Lembo, the former Dartmouth assistant who gave up a successful head-coaching job at Lehigh to move to struggling Elon. ... There have been several stories in The D and the local daily about the end of the Tubestock tradition. Those stories are making me feel old. A tradition? I guess. But I sure didn't think that was what was getting started almost 20 years ago when my roommate in our little quonset hut of a house on the Connecticut River in Norwich came up with the idea of having the band that practiced in our bottom floor set up on the rickety deck overlooking the river and play a little music for a few water-borne friends. ... This London Times story has nothing to do with sports but it's a riveting read about the Taleban's foreign advisor studying at Yale. The story about Sayed Rahmatullah Hashemi, 27, includes this:
“I hate to be hated,” he says. But he feels lucky to have made it to America’s third oldest university — whose alumni include the current and past two US presidents.
