From the Daily Pennsylvanian regarding the Quakers' win over Dartmouth last Saturday: "Penn did not have a stellar day on the ground, either, but running backs Joe Sandberg and Sam Shepherd gave the Quakers something their opponents did not have - enough of a running game to have a chance at winning." That didn't sound right to me, so I went back and checked the numbers. Total rushing yards: Penn 96, Dartmouth 92. Penn ran the ball 35 times, Dartmouth ran it 26. So the average per rush: Penn 2.7 yards, Dartmouth 3.5 yards.
A DP blogger and I also disagree about the Dartmouth uniforms. He writes of coach Buddy Teevens: "He may not have turned around the football team yet, but at least Teevens has the uniform going in the right direction." Again, maybe it's the Penn Stater in me, but I'll take the classic uniform look any day of the week.
Old friend Rogers Hughes has Princeton (3-0) in the I-AA polls for the first time since 1993.
Taking a look around Week Three of the Ivy season are the Daily Pennsylvanian and the Cornell Sun.
This is a fun story. A Columbia Spectator writer with a little kicking background challenged Jon Rocholl, the team's fine placekicker, to a game of P-I-G kicking field goals. You know the game; If I make one and you miss it, you get a letter. Then if you make one and I miss it, I get a letter.
The only surprise about UNH quarterback Ricky Santos being named the national Co-Player of the Week by the Sports Network is the Co part.
