Buddy Bikes: The Route Eastward

UPDATE: If you are along the proposed route and have any "local knowledge" or suggestions to share about roads to avoid, traffic, hills, places to stay etc., or simply would like to ride along for a few miles, you are encouraged to send an email by clicking here: Buddy Bikes.

The start of Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens' 3,600-mile bicycle trip is less than a week away and more details are being ironed out. His new bike arrived the other day and he said, with an almost evil grin, "It's a rocket." It better be ;-)

The map above is a suggestion of the second half of his trip, from Kansas City, Kan., to the East Coast. Having made a similar ride two times, I can tell you that the route becomes more and more fluid the farther along you get. That said, his trip is currently slated to go through the following areas after leaving Kansas City:

  • Independence, MO
  • Moberly, MO
  • Hannibal, MO
  • Quincy, IL
  • Springfield, IL
  • Decatur, IL
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • North of Columbus, OH
  • Akron, OH
  • Youngstown, OH
  • Erie, PA
At that point he will have to decide if he has enough time (and energy) before his son's graduation from Connecticut's Salisbury School to ride across New York and Vermont and into Hanover, or whether he'll have to sprint across Pennsylvania to get to Salisbury in time for the ceremony.

Also, while Coach Teevens isn't an official entrant in The 26th Annual Prouty Century Ride & Challenge Walk raising money for cancer research at Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center, he's hoping the ride and publicity it attracts will help raise breast cancer awareness and perhaps a few dollars for the cause. If you'd like to help the Prouty in Buddy's honor, he invites you to click here to make a contribution to the support the fight against cancer.
