Not all potential bulletin board material for the Dartmouth locker room came out of yesterday's media day poll that projected the Big Green to finish last in the Ivy League. In its season preview, the blog For God, For Country And For Yale -- pulled together by a Yale defensive lineman -- has this to say about Dartmouth: "Teevens might have gotten some pub for his cross country bike ride, but he has failed to improve the overall talent level of his team."
The New York Times has a story out of media day. I had to laugh when I read the following sentence from Frank Litsky
"But there have been no national championships for the conference’s teams because they are banned from participating in the postseason by their university presidents."There have been some very, very good Ivy teams in recent years and Harvard coach Tim Murphy thinks this year's Yale team could be right up there with the best. But even if they were allowed to go to the playoffs, a national championship would be a stretch. The New York Times was never going to hire me as an editor, but if it did, I'd have suggested that sentence be changed to read:
"But there have been no national championships for the conference’s teams at least in part because they are banned from participating in the postseason by their university presidents."Jake Novak over at Roar Lions Roar offers a few thoughts on the media day festivities. It was fun to finally meet Jake after trading emails and thoughts with him for some time.
From the San Francisco Chronicle (courtesy of a subscriber):
"Commissioner Bud Selig, who was in San Diego over the weekend, is expected to miss the next couple of games. Major League Baseball will be represented by Jimmie Lee Solomon, executive vice president of baseball operations."Solomon played football, not baseball, at Dartmouth, where he was a teammate of Buddy Teevens.
Colgate practice has begun. The team site has a photo gallery from the first session on the Raiders' new FieldTurf surface.
