Tuesday Practice

HANOVER -- Mike Hodgson understands.

The Dartmouth offensive coordinator and running backs coach has no quarrel with people on the outside who have questions about the Big Green’s attack this year. After all, Mike Fritz -- the starting quarterback, leading rusher and an honorable mention All-Ivy selection -- has graduated. So has Ryan Fuselier, a member of the All-Ivy second team and the sixth-leading receiver in school history.

While the top three running backs return, not one of them averaged more than 33 yards per game a year ago. And though there’s a quartet of starters returning up front, none of the offensive linemen back in the fold received any kind of All-Ivy recognition last fall.

Considering that Dartmouth finished last in the Ivy League in scoring and seventh of eight teams in total offense a year ago, that’s a lot of ammunition for the naysayers.

Still Hodgson, had an air of steely confidence about him Tuesday after practice when he talked about the Dartmouth offense.
