Dartmouth tight end recruit John Gallagher has been chosen to play in Oregon's Les Schwab Bowl.
Scott Creelman '64, has gone from captain of an undefeated Dartmouth team and winner of the Bob Blackman Trophy to head of Spalding Sports Worldwide to winner of the Henry Butova Award given by the Western Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. (Link)
Former tailback and current lacrosse captain Chad Gaudet might have had his tongue in his cheek just a bit when he gave this quote to the Daily Dartmouth for a story about snow delaying the installation of FieldTurf at Scully-Fahey Field:
“I’d equate the Scully-Fahey situation to the breakup of Van Halen’s original lineup in 1985 — there’s a lot of rumors about what went wrong, but no one knows for sure what happened. Hopefully, like Van Halen, the field will return this year as well.”Dartmouth's overall charges next year will be $47,694 according to this college release which also includes an outline of "search plans for a successor to President James Wright."
Harvard is taking a public relations beating and you have to wonder what the response will be. A sampling of stories that the New York Times piece on alleged basketball recruiting issues under new coach Tommy Amaker has spawned includes:
- The Chronicle of Higher Education
- The Las Vegas Sun
- The San Jose Mercury News
- The Harvard Crimson
- The Rutgers Daily Targum
- The Yale Daily News
- Message boards like InsideIllini.com
- and one of the most reasoned blogs you'll find: TheSportsProf
A final thought: It was surprising to read that the Harvard AD didn't know about the assistant coach who played hoop with potential recruits before officially joining Tommy Amaker's staff. Heck, I heard about it in early November (and no, not from anyone on the Dartmouth staff).
