Memorial Field Details

Information has trickled out of the college on the work to be done on the west stands at Memorial Field but there's some on the web if you know where to look. Keeping in mind that price tags in particular are fluid, this page about the football stadium project reports:
  • Work is scheduled to begin in November of 2008
  • Estimated completion is August of 2009
  • Price tag is $12,200,000
  • Seating capacity is listed at 4,736
From the web page:
This project includes a comprehensive replacement of the structural components of the stands, including all seating tiers as well as the multi-level Press Box. The historic brick arcade will be retained. In addition, the project includes extensive improvements for handicap accessibility, toilet facilities and concessions.
As long as we're at it, here are the details listed on a web page for the Red Rolfe Field (baseball) project:
  • Work is scheduled to begin in June of 2008
  • Estimated completion is April of 2009
  • Price tag is $4,130,000
  • Seating capacity is listed at 632
From the web page:
The existing Red Rolfe Field will be replaced with a new playing surface, including a new artificial turf field with an integrated sub-surface drainage system. The project also includes a new bleacher structure, providing a mix of individual chair and bench-back spectator seating, handicap-accessibility, perimeter landscaping, dugouts, batting cages, bullpens and other field amenities. The project is also designed to accommodate the portable bleachers used at Memorial Field, when necessary, which adds another 1,200 seats to the field capacity.
And finally, given the installation of FieldTurf at Scully-Fahey field, there's a new AstroTurf field on tap for the field hockey program. This page has the details:
  • Work is scheduled to begin in March of 2008
  • Estimated completion is August of 2008
  • Price tag is $2,400,000
  • Temporary seating capacity is listed at 600
From the web site:
The Multi-Purpose Field will provide a synthetic surface for the intercollegiate field hockey competitions and a practice surface for other intramural and intercollegiate sports. The field surface will be Astroturf 12 system with an E-layer, which is NCAA approved for field hockey competition. The project includes 600 seats of temporary seating, a scoreboard, portable scorers table and conduit for future lighting.
