White Washes Away Green

HANOVER – Freshman quarterbacks Tim McManus and Will Deevy were a combined 14-of-18 for 212 yards and tailback Hudson Smythe added a 46-yard touchdown pass to lead their White team to a commanding 27-0 victory over the Green in Dartmouth's annual Green-White scrimmage Saturday on Memorial Field.

McManus was 5-for-7 for 105 yards and a touchdown, Deevy was 9-for-11 for 107 yards and a touchdown and Donald Kephart added field goals of 25 and 36 yards for the winners. Junior tailback Nate Servis caught nine passes for 124 yards, including a 44-yard toss from McManus that went for a touchdown. Junior Phil Galligan was on the receiving end of five passes for 125 yards, including the 46-yard option toss from Smythe. The White team's other touchdown was a 31-yard seam-burner from Deevy to freshman Kyle Battle.

Freshman TJ Cameron was the game's top ground gainer with four carries for 41 yards for the Green team. McManus has 45 yards on five carries before his 23-yard scramble was called back on a holding penalty.

Sophomore defensive end Marlon Alebiosu and junior linebacker Johari Wiggins finished the day with six tackles apiece while sophomore defensive tackle Josh Doherty recorded five stops and sophomore safety Tony Pastoors had four. Senior linebacker Joe Battaglia and freshman linebacker Alex Johns had three apiece. Doherty added a fumble recovery as did junior defensive end Malcolm Freberg.

Former Dartmouth coach Jake Crouthamel was the honorary coach of the Green team while his successor in Hanover, Joe Yukica, was the honorary coach of the White team. Current head coach Buddy Teevens played for both men.

After the game Teevens announced the 2008 Dartmouth captains. Elected by their teammates were junior offensive lineman Alex Rapp of St. Louis, junior tailback Milan Willliams of Mobile, Ala., and junior linebacker Andrew Dete of Marietta, Ga.

Dartmouth opens the 2008 season at Colgate on Sept. 20 and the home season a week later against New Hampshire. The Ivy League opener will be Oct. 4 at Pennsylvania.

The Ivy League Championship Series baseball doubleheader slated for Saturday afternoon was rained out. With the immediate forecast dire, it won't be made up until Tuesday, beginning at noon. If a third game is necessary it will be played Wednesday.
