The New Haven Register's Portal 31 Yale football blog reports on the possibility that Tom Williams, a Buddy Teevens assistant coach at Stanford, might be in line to take over the Yale program. From the Portal 31 post:
Remember the bizarre story about the Nevada high school lineman whose story about being recruited by Oregon and Cal proved to be a hoax? ESPN's Outside the Lines follows up nearly a year later with a piece that includes interviews with the player, his father and his former coach. If you missed it this morning you can tape/DVR it at 3 p.m., all week and it's worth it. Find a preview and the schedule of replays here.
And finally, that certain Hanover High junior qualified for states in a third event in as many tries yesterday, this time making it in the 1,000 meters. The freshman, meanwhile, had another PR in the 1,500. Although he's running only to get in shape, it almost sounded yesterday as if he was excited about his race, which ended with an all-out sprint down the final straightaway. That's almost ;-)
When speaking to sources regarding Williams' first interview, the word was that Williams came across as a bright, engaging, charismatic individual and knocked them dead during the interview. However, he had two things doing against him - he has never been a head coach at any level and the closest coaching stop to New Haven is his most recent one in Jacksonville. The Register also has a column about whether the protracted search is having a negative impact on Yale's program.
