Giving new meaning to Big Green?
Most of the repair work has been completed on Memorial Field's home stands. Power washing, concrete work and some yellow paint spiffed up the home stands, which were originally scheduled to be replaced in time for the 2009 season. (Click photos to enlarge)

The Dartmouth roster has been updated for the 2009 season, although the heights and weights are not yet official. ... The roster includes just 17 seniors. ... Moved from the playing roster to the coaches page are fifth-year senior Kyle Cavanaugh and juniors Carter Scott and Kyle Battle. Each has seen his career ended by injury.
The Ivy League media teleconference is Tuesday and Big Green premium will kick into gear that afternoon. If you haven't signed up yet, don't wait!
Usually the Ivy League media guides are ready to hand out at media day. There must be less of a rush without a traditional media gathering because Cornell is the only Ivy guide that has gone up on line so far. Or the only one I've been able to find. New Hampshire is the only one of the three non-conference opponents whose guide has been posted.
While Dartmouth won't begin practice for another 17 days, other schools are already in camp. Still, it caught me by surprise when I read that Tennessee isn't just in camp, but the Vols have already scrimmaged. Link
Here's another hard-to-believe one from that other level of football. This is Joe Paterno's 60th year on the PSU sidelines. Just think about that. It will be "only" his 44th year as head coach, but his 60th year on the Penn State staff. Find his bio here.
The New York Times had a nice piece on Budd Schulberg '36. From the story:
Budd Schulberg, the Hollywood heavyweight who died Wednesday at 95, had seen his share of fights — and had been involved in a few.And this from the story:
“I almost came to blows with Ernest Hemingway,” Schulberg said in an interview last month. “Another guy I didn’t like was Humphrey Bogart. He was very nasty and often provoked me and made trouble. We always argued.”
In 1939, Schulberg teamed with F. Scott Fitzgerald, among others, on the screenplay for “Winter Carnival,” a comedy set at Dartmouth. Eventually, United Artists fired Fitzgerald for drunkenness while working on the project.
“Even though our assignment became a disaster, Scott and I remained very good friends,” Schulberg said.
