Tennessee Defensive End Set For Dartmouth

Steven Stafford, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive end from Evangelical Christian School in Tennesee and the D2-A lineman of the year has committed to Dartmouth according to the Commercial Appeal. The Mr. Football Winner had 69 tackles 13 sacks and six forced fumbles in 10 games this fall according to the story.

Stafford has been chosen to the Blue team for the Dec. 12 AutoZone Liberty Bowl High School All-Star Game at Memphis University School. (link) The game features 80 seniors from 41 public and private high schools.

A statistical addition from Dartmouth sports info director Rick Bender: Sophomore corner Shawn Abuhoff is now fifth nationally in passes defended at 1.4 per game.

Here we go again. Dartmouth's lack of a viable nickname/mascot creates a void that the unofficial mascot fills. From ESPN.com:
With the death of its mascot Uga VII, the University of Georgia is in search of a new live bulldog, and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has suggested a far-fetched alternative -- replacing the live mascot with a robot mascot. In other news, students at Dartmouth -- where Keggy the Keg is the unofficial mascot -- have asked the school to start using a live keg.
Green Alert Take: I've said it before but it's time for someone to have the backbone to step up and act. My vote continues to go to Dartmouth North Stars, which works on a number of levels.

Dan Shaughnessy has a nice story on SI.com about Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph going from high school backup to NFL prospect. A clarification: Randolph actually missed his freshman year with injury.

To keep up on the comings and goings in the Division I coaching world, check out this page at The Sports Network. Although the page is off-line as I write this, yesterday it listed 19 Division I coaches who had departed and four who have been hired.
