A Couple More Names

A writer for the Lancaster, Pa., daily paper thinks Dartmouth would be a very good fit for highly regarded Lancaster Catholic quarterback Kyle Smith, who made a visit to Hanover last fall. Jeff Reinhart writes:
I’ve been saying all along that I wouldn’t be surprised if Smith lands at an Ivy League school, and Dartmouth just might be the perfect spot. The Big Green is recruiting Smith to play football and throw javelin – double bonus for him – and they have an engineering program, which is on his checklist.

Plus, football coach Buddy Teevens, who is back for his second stint with the Big Green, is a QB guru. He coached former NFL player Jay Fiedler at Dartmouth and he also coached at Stanford, Tulane and Florida, under Steve Spurrier.

Teevens coached NFL quarterbacks Trent Edwards, Shaun King and Rex Grossman during those stops.
Of Kyle Smith, MaxPreps' Tom Lemming writes:
This lefty has ice water in his veins, he does not panic when pressure is around him, holds the ball until the last second, and does a good job of finding open receivers. He has a quick release and is able to get rid of the ball fast. Shows good touch on fade routes and has good footwork. Better suited to be a pocket passer, but is deadly when throwing on the run.
ESPN.com recruiting has a look at him as does Scout.com. For a postgame interview with an impressive student-athlete, click on this video.

Linebacker In Recruiting Class
From the News-Journal in Florida:
"New Smyrna Beach linebacker Michael Klein was accepted to Ivy League Dartmouth, but the senior with the 3.9 grade point average will look elsewhere if he can get a football scholarship."
The News-Journal page reports that Klein had a whopping 197 tackles and eight sacks last fall.

His MonsterPreps page lists Klein as 6-foot, 215 pounds although he's 5-11 in the newspaper report.

Recruiting from the high school class of 2010 hasn't yet finished and already there are kids from the 2011 class having their names bandied about. One of them is Giles Chapman of Monte Vista High School in California. This note says:
His pure talent and athleticism have drawn interest from Dartmouth, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Rutgers and Wyoming among others.

And finally, the problem with having a 1993 car with 169,000 miles on it as your daily driver is that it is a 1993 car with 169,000 miles on it. Keep your fingers crossed that it survives this visit to the shop ;-)
