On Jan. 9, Gov. David A. Paterson was the No. 1 trend on Google’s hot-searches list because of a skit that mocked him on “Saturday Night Live.” No. 9 was Cole Marcoux, a Dartmouth quarterback recruit who rode a wave of success from a reality series to a role in that afternoon’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. That attention, however, has not translated into much in the way of "offers" from big-time schools if you are to believe the Times story, which notes:
Marcoux, a senior at Fieldston School in the Bronx, had no Division I scholarship offers before joining the cast of “The Ride,” a series that rewarded one prep star with a chance to play in the Army game. He has since picked up offers from East Carolina and Buffalo. Rutgers and a few others have asked to see more tape. From the story:
"Ranked the No. 1 quarterback prospect in New York by Rivals.com, Marcoux remains committed to the Big Green."You may have read that Cornell was playing Harvard last night in a game that some outlets were trying to paint as the biggest Ivy League men's basketball matchup in decades. It wasn't that, as fans of Princeton and Penn know better than anyone. Nor was it classic as Cornell utterly destroyed Tommy Amaker's Harvard team, 86-50. (link)
There was a much better game in the "Little Ivies" yesterday as 18-1 Williams and 17-1 Middlebury squared off. Although classes for Midd's J-Term had finished the day before and a hockey game was going on at the same time, the gym was packed and the noise was at times deafening as the Ephs pulled away in the final minutes to post a 79-64 victory. Williams has two players Ivy League recruiters clearly dropped the ball on, a whippet-quick, daring and inventive point guard from Sydney, Australia named James Wang (25 points) and a power forward from Brooklyn named Troy Whittington (8-for-9, 17 points, two vicious dunks). Fourth-ranked Williams is coached by Mike Maker, the longtime Dartmouth assistant.
Now we are off to the University of New Hampshire for the final indoor track meet before states next Sunday at Leverone Field House.
