The States of the Ivy League

It wasn't all that long ago that the Ivy League pulled together a "Where They are From," listing when the football recruits were released. It was kind of fun to see what states were "hot" recruiting areas. Unfortunately, that list hasn't been pulled together for a few years now.

With help from Apple's Numbers spreadsheet program I've been able to recreate what the Ivy League used to provide us. Of course, there's still one school left to release it's recruiting class – Cornell – so my work isn't done.

Because it isn't, I will hold off on posting the entire state-by-state list until all the recruits are in. For now, I'll offer up a listing of how many Ivy League football players have been recruited out of each state along with what states are Ivy-less. Again, keep in mind that there's one school still missing.

If you are near a TV today be sure to tune in to ESPNU at 4 p.m. to watch Dartmouth challenge Miami in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. If you are stuck at your computer, you can listen to the game with Drew Galbraith calling the action and Dartmouth SID Rick Bender (a former Davidson College baseball standout) doing the color commentary here.

Not surprisingly, the ACC Sports Journal doesn't think much of the Big Green's chances. From that site:
Dartmouth (26-17, RPI 145) is the Ivy League champ. The Big Green doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and lead the NCAA in fewest walks allowed. But Dartmouth also have (sic) a meager offense that leaves it little hope this weekend.

A former Penn defensive lineman who lettered in 2003 is in legal trouble down in Philadelphia. From Philly.com:
Philadelphia police arrested a former University of Pennsylvania football player and mixed-martial-arts trainer and seized $1.2 million worth of high-grade marijuana from his fight-training studio in University City Wednesday night, authorities said.

Travis Roesler, 27, who operates Babylon Studios in a two-level brick building behind the 4100 block of Spruce Street, was arrested on the street earlier in the day, Capt. James Kelly of Narcotics South said. Police served a search warrant at his studios around 7 p.m.
The Daily Pennsylvanian also has a story.

I left my Little League game early last night (we clinched our division while improving to 10-0 ;-) to catch the final sports banquet in the athletic career of That Certain Hanover High School Senior. She was presented plaques for having the highest batting average on the team (.444 after a very slow start) and as team MVP, both for the second year in a row.

The head coach announced she has been nominated to play in the Granite State Games and for the all-state team. (She was second-team last year.) It would be hard to imagine someone from a winless team being awarded the honor, but the coach also told the group she has been nominated for the state player of the year in Hanover's class.
