Reading Material

Dartmouth's game notes for Bucknell have been posted. The notes include a two-deep that lists junior Conner Kempe as the starting quarterback and classmate Dan Rooney as his backup. Freshmen appearing on the initial two-deep are backup wide receiver Dana Barbaro, second-team corner AJ Dettorre and backup punter Daniel Barstein.

Dartmouth's official site also features a press release aboutthe opener.

Video of the game will be carried on Bisonvision. If I'm reading the information right, the charge is $9.95.

No promises but this site is saying it will allow you to watch the game free. Before deciding to try to save the $9.95, you might want to consider this, copied verbatim, from the "free" site:

Former Dartmouth safety Peter Pidermann's season playing professionally in Germany was the subject of a story in the Daily Dartmouth's freshman edition.

The Sports Network has made its picks for the week and predicts:
Dartmouth to defeat Bucknell
Penn to defeat Holy Cross
Harvard to defeat Holy Cross
Fordham to defeat Columbia
Wagner to defeat Cornell
Lehigh to defeat Princeton
Georgetown to defeat Yale
*
The Sports Network went out on a limb on some of those picks – perhaps most notably choosing Georgetown over Yale – but that limb is nothing like the one a writer for the Princetonian is on. From a look at Princeton's opponents there is this about Dartmouth:
The Tigers should be able to play on their own terms when they face the Big Green, as it is unlikely that Dartmouth will be able to impose itself upon Princeton, either offensively or defensively, in any kind of serious way. A loss to Dartmouth would be somewhat shocking, and the odds of such an occurrence are rather slim.
Expect that to find its way onto a bulletin board at some point this fall.

Princeton has posted Information Central, its online media guide of sorts. GameDay Central also has kicked off in Tiger Town.

The Daily Pennsylvanian has another story in the aftermath of the finding that the late Penn football player Owen Thomas had chronic traumatic encephalopathy. The story notes:
Though the NCAA has some guidelines and requirements for dealing with concussions, most of the responsibility is left to individual schools to handle cases involving head trauma.
Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens addressed the issue of concussions and head injuries in last night's Green Alert Premium posting. Among other things he said:
"We are extremely conservative with regard to concussions. The baseline testing, the sensors that we fix to helmets, and the federally funded study that we are a major part of really is all geared to protect our players to the fullest.

“You need to take good care and I think we do as good a job as anybody in the country. We do not rush people back. It’s strictly the call of the medical community. Again, we are very conservative. And in the teaching aspect, we teach them to keep the head out (of tackling) completely to let guys protect themselves to the fullest. We’ve had limited numbers in recent history and I think it’s a result of the stuff we do to protect our players.”

And finally, looking for a good place to retire? CNNMoney.com lists Hanover in its Best Places to Retire. (Thanks for the link.) From the story:
New England is chock full of charming villages. But few are as welcoming to retirees as Hanover, home of Dartmouth College and its 20-year-old senior education program.
