Buy or Sell?

A Daily Dartmouth writer has a little fun with a few of college's fall teams, suggesting whether at this point it would be wise to buy or sell shares in those teams right now. His verdict on football: Sell.

From the story ...
Jump ship now, but be sure to have someone close by who can throw you a flotation device in case the football team wins these two games and proves me dead wrong.

The Sports Network has a capsule on the Dartmouth-Penn game and predicts a 17-9 win for the Quakers. From the story:
Dartmouth's defense also has been strong, allowing just seven second-half points in its first two games combined.
It's true. Dartmouth has allowed just seven points in the second half of its first two games combined. That's the good new for the Big Green faithful. The bad news is that it is seventh in the league in yards allowed.

Jake Novak over at Roar Lions Roar cites the offshore "experts" who have Penn a 13.5 point favorite. He writes:
Penn hasn’t always looked too great in these week 3 games against the Big Green. My theory is that there’s always a big comedown after the Villanova game. And even if Quaker QB Keiffer Garton plays in the game, the offense may still sputter. Penn will win the game, but the Green covers.

The Daily Pennsylvanian has a graphic look at the Dartmouth-Penn series over the past 10 years. It notes that the Big Green's strong rushing attack (a league-leading 203.0 yards per game) will be facing one of the best run defenses in the Ivies (88.0 yards per game).

This is sweet. The Voice of Franklin Field is wrapping up a half century as the PA announcer for Penn football this fall. He'll be honored at halftime of the Saturday's game. Check out this Penn Gazette story about him and this blog post.

A story from the Fashion section of England's Telegraph newspaper offers a look back at the book Take Ivy, a 1965 Japanese guide to Ivy League dress codes. In addition to some wonderful period photos, the book included this:
Since there is absolutely no entertainment whatsoever outside of the Dartmouth campus, sports competitions inevitably attract student interest.

I just stumbled across this great quote from Joe Paterno: "The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital."

We desperately needed rain in these parts and we've been getting it in buckets for the past 24 hours. It will do wonders for those of us who rely on wells for our water, but won't do much for the leaf peepers who flood Hanover this time of year, as the Daily Dartmouth reports.
