Tune In

Out-of-towners with access to Sirius Radio can catch the Dartmouth-Yale game today on channel 130 at 1:30. That should be easy to remember. The broadcast will feature the Dartmouth team of Bob Lipman and Wayne Young.

Speaking of Wayne Young, the former Dartmouth football and baseball standout went on to serve as head coach of the Dartmouth rugby team, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this weekend.

If you are in town for football and haven't yet seen the Dartmouth rugby clubhouse, do yourself a favor and take a five-minute drive off campus to check it out. Just cruise past the Dartmouth Green, through one light and it will be on your right across from the golf course. Park in the lot and take a walk around. Suffice it to say when they built this facility, they did it right.

As part of the celebration Dartmouth rugby will host a men’s game today at 11:30 a.m. with a women's game at 1:30 p.m.

The Ithaca Journal has a pretty good Gannett.com Ivy League weekend preview. It includes this about Dartmouth:
Dartmouth is the only squad in the 117-team FCS to have allowed just one sack this season, a feat that coach Buddy Teevens actually attributed to more than just his offensive line.

"It's a point of emphasis across the board, even the receivers, 'Hey, get yourself open,' and the backs, 'Get into your routes,'" Teevens said. "That's been huge for us, because we haven't been putting ourselves behind the chains."

Wonderful story in the Wall Street Journal online about Columbia captain Alex Gross and the challenges he faces combining football and top-level academics.

By the way, we are off to a Chamber of Commerce start on the day. It is absolutely gorgeous out this morning with a strikingly blue sky and a slight breeze making the air crisp. The foliage is a little off this year – not many reds – but days like this are made for football in Hanover.
