Bowl Win for Calhoun

Given all the wind, it's hard to tell how much snow we've gotten so far but this much I know: The fellow who plows our driveway has already been here once and he'll be back.

Assistant coach Cedric Calhoun's move from Dartmouth to Florida International saw his first season at FIU finish with a heartstopping, 34-32, win over Toledo last night in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. The winning points came on a 34-yard field goal with no time left. Find Calhoun's FIU bio here and the Detroit News game story here.

The University of New Hampshire could be heading for a real scheduling bind with big changes potentially in store for the CAA. As the emailer who shared this link (thanks) wondered, perhaps Dartmouth will be hearing from the Wildcats about getting back the game the Big Green owes them in the near future. The story included this interesting tidbit:
UNH played three non-conference games this year and traditionally includes one FBS team in that mix. This year it was Pittsburgh; next year it will be Toledo. (Athletic Director Marty) Scarano said the school would not play an FBS team for less than $300,000.

Another regular reader shared a link (thanks) to a Sports Business Journal listing of gifts players receive at various bowl games. Looks as if Sony, Apple, Oakley and something called Fossil are popular. A few gifts probably are greeted with guffaws. A Christmas ornament? A mini-helmet? A calendar? A souvenir coin?

A West Virginia quarterback has chosen Yale after receiving offers from Marshall, Army and a few Ivies. From the story:
Dartmouth was the leader among other Ivy League offers, which also included Harvard, Columbia, Cornell and Princeton.

That Certain Hanover High grad ran 10 miles yesterday as part of indoor track training. She's supposed to run six today. I'm not completely certain, but I rather suspect that's not going to be much fun today (as if it ever is).
