Familiar Names

A handful of players Dartmouth saw this year took part in the FCS Senior Scout Bowl played over the weekend in Middletown, N.Y. CBSsports.com had a preview of the game. Tough to tell who actually took part, but scheduled to play according to the latest roster on the game's website were:

• Collin Zych, Harvard defensive back
• Luke DeLuca, Penn running back
• Emani Fenton, Cornell defensive back
• Dempsey Quinny, Cornell defensive back
• Bill Edgar, Holy Cross wide receiver
• Luke Chmielinski, Holy Cross wide receiver
• Fred Santana, Holy Cross wide receiver

Also listed on the final roster was the Colgate duo of quarterback Greg Sullivan and defensive end Zach Smith.

Villanova is now the favorite as the FCS playoffs hit the semifinal stage according to The Sports Network. And with apologies to those of you who are tired of hearing it ... Ivy League champion Penn is still idle.

Before this year's game at Columbia I should have encouraged those of you who would be sitting in the bleachers behind the Dartmouth team to take a few minutes and climb to the top of the home stands to check out the view I captured with this picture. It really is quite spectacular. I've often wondered about the "C" painted on the rock face and recently learned more about it in a story in the Manhattan Times.
