Green Getting its Kicks

Better eyes than mine have dug up another commitment, this one from a highly regarded kicker/punter from Roswell, Ga., and Blessed Trinity High School. News of Riley Lyons' commitment was posted here.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that Lyons, also offered by Brown, booted a 52-yard field goal this fall and was wide on a 51-yarder. He recorded touchbacks on 31 of his 45 kickoffs and averaged 38.6 yards punting.

From Kohl's Professional Camps:
Riley is super explosive, KO's are good enough to start in SEC
From Chris Sailer Kicking:
He has one of the strongest legs in the class of 2011. Gets great height on his field goals. Kickoffs are huge and near the very top of his class. Also a solid punter.
From ESPN.com:
Riley has BCS leg strength. He can hit KO's as good as anyone in the country (Multiple 4.1's hang-times) and has shown tremendous potential in FG's. His FG range is excellent, his consistency is solid but does need to get better to play in college early.

Voting continues in the Ivy League poll to predict who will win the Ivy League Player of the Year award. Remember, this is to predict the winner, not name him ;-)

As of yesterday at 8:30 a.m. the poll looked like this:

31 percent: Billy Ragone, Penn
19 percent: Gino Gordon, Harvard
11 percent: Trey Peacock, Princeton

As of 9:30 this morning it looked like this:
67 percent: Nick Schwieger, Dartmouth

10 percent: Gino Gordon, Harvard
5 percent: Trey Peacock, Princeton

Penn has a nicely done video on quarterback Billy Ragone, the Ivy League's version of Tim Tebow. The highlights will show you why he's a candidate. The frightening thing for the Ivy League is the 6-foot-1, 220-pound sophomore should have three more years of eligibility (although they probably don't want to refer to him as a "redshirt freshman" in the video). And for the record, Nick Schwieger is a junior, not a senior.

New Hampshire coach Sean McDonnell has been named the New England Coach of the Year. The 10th-ranked Wildcats (7-4) play at 10-1 Bethune-Cookman today in Daytona Beach, Fla., in the NCAA playoffs. UNH is making its seventh trip to the playoffs in a row, the longest streak in the nation.

Patriot League champion Lehigh (10-2) will play at No. 3 Delaware.

And Ivy League champion Penn is ... idle until next fall.
