More Early Decision

Four more names to add to the list of five Dartmouth early decision recruits reported in this space yesterday: highly regarded kicker/punter Riley Lyons of Roswell, Ga., and Blessed Trinity HS; Ben Spiritos, a 6-foot-2, 295 offensive lineman from Landon School and Olney, Md.; Jeff Winthrop a 6-4, 285 defensive lineman at New Hampshire's St. Paul's School from Roxbury, Conn., and Patrick Hand, a 6-4, 260 offensive lineman from Far Hills, N.J., and Lawrenceville School.

Two regular early-decision admits who intend to play football are Pedro Robinson, a 5-9, 170 running back from Sacred Heart Prep and Palo Alto, Calif. (video highlights and a story), and Chris Boudreaux, a 6-5, 240 tight end whose mother Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82, is the most dominating women's basketball player in Ivy League history (21.7 career scoring average, 18.4 career rebound average). Among the other early decision admits with strong high school football backgrounds is Peter Savarese, a 6-2, 200 linebacker/receiver from Buckingham, Browne & Nichols and Belmont, Mass.

The Ivy League office has a release about postseason honors that leads with Dartmouth returner Shawn Abuhoff and Columbia tight end Andrew Kennedy being named first-team All-Americans.

Word has reached these precincts that the Dartmouth Club of Southwest Florida hosted Buddy Teevens with honored guest David Shula and Shawn Abuhoff at Shula's Steakhouse in Naples, Fla. The turnout of 40 guests included four Wearers of the Green. (Thanks for the note.)

The Boston Globe has an opinion piece in praise of the Patriot League tabling a decision on football scholarships. (Thanks for the link.) From the piece:
The Patriot League currently allows athletic scholarships in other sports, but football requires so many more players that scholarships have not been allowed since the league came into existence in 1986.
The piece also says Fordham instituted scholarships ...
... clearly believing the rest of the league would swiftly follow suit.
I would think there are Patriot League experts who might debate the accuracy of both of those statements.

And finally, Merry Christmas and holiday wishes from the snowy shoulder of Moose Mountain.
