Schwieger is Co-Ivy League Player of Year

Dartmouth tailback Nick Schwieger has been selected the Ivy League's co-winner of the Asa S. Bushnell Award as the Ivy League's player of the year. The Big Green junior shares the Bushnell honor with Harvard tailback Gino Gordon. Find the Ivy League release here. (There's video also.)

Schwieger is the first Dartmouth winner of the Bushnell award since quarterback Jay Fiedler was honored in 1992 after guiding the Big Green to the Ivy League championship.

Despite missing one game, Schwieger led the Ivy League in rushing this fall for the second year in a row, running for 1,133 yards, the second-highest total in school history.

His 125.9 yards per game ranked him fifth nationally through the end of the regular sason. He ran for a season-high 216 yards in the season-opening win at Bucknell, had 169 yards in a victory over Holy Cross and another 164 in the win at Cornell. He had six games of 100 or more yards and also caught 28 passes for another 210 yards.

He tied the Dartmouth single-season record and led the Ivy Legaue with 14 touchdowns and even showed off his arm with a 62-yard touchdown pass against Brown. He is second on the all-time Dartmouth career rushing list with 1,840 yards. The record is 2,252 by Al Rosier ’91.

“Nick was a highly recruited guy who came to Dartmouth with the idea of changing the program and he’s helped us do that,” said coach Buddy Teevens. “He has just been relentless in his physical conditioning, his strength training, his leadership and his commitment to improving our football program. I'm so happy for him and proud of him because he took a leap of faith coming to Dartmouth."
