Catching Our Breath

It's a quiet day here at the world headquarters of BGA after the roar of the past few ;-)
*
One update on the recruiting front. Switch 6-foot-3, 260-pound Texas lineman Keith Hamren from the offensive side of the ball to the defensive side. ... The above link, by the way, is for Hamren's berecruited.com page, and the chairman of berecruited happens to be Ray Sozzi, a 1990 Dartmouth graduate better known in these parts for starting up Student Advantage. ...

As long as you are on the berecruited site, check out this explanation of the Likely Letter. Remember, although virtually every report on the Internet this week mentioned high school seniors "signing" with Ivy League schools, the Ivy League does not recognize the National Letter of Intent. Whatever the athletes were signing, it wasn't that ;-)
*
Speaking of signing day, this is, um, mandatory. Check out this story that the dean of Ivy League posters tossed up on the Voy message board. It's either pretty funny or pretty sad. (Hint: There's a reason for the italics.)
*
Don't be surprised if two or three more names surface in the Dartmouth recruiting class.
*
The Brown Daily Herald has a story noting that 2009 All-Ivy quarterback Kyle Newhall-Caballero, 2010 All-Ivy wide receiver Alex Tounkara and fellow receiver Matt Sudfeld will all return as fifth-year seniors next fall. No official word on whether he's healthy and will be playing in the fall, but if you add in hard-running tailback Spiro Theodosi (who missed last year with injury) and returning rushing leader Mark Kachmer, that's a whole lot of firepower.
*
Princeton senior Jordan Culbreath is a finalist for the Uplifting Athletes Rare Disease award. Learn more about Culbreath and the others finalists, and vote for the winner here. The Princeton football site has a story here.
*
Dartmouth football will visit Sacred Heart on Sept. 24 next fall in the second game of the season. If you are curious who the Pioneers pulled in on signing day, click here.
*
And finally, paging through the Feb. 7 Time Magazine I came across a picture on page 58 of the late author JD Salinger crossing the street with his wife in 1998. Take a look and see if you recognize where the picture was taken. ;-)
