Catching Up With JL

Saturday's spring practice (double click to enlarge)

Seacoastonline.com has a nice story about former Dartmouth head coach John Lyons taking over as defensive coordinator at the University of New Hampshire. Lyons, who guided Dartmouth to its only 10-0 season in 1996, also has coached at Penn, Boston University and with the NFL Europe's Cologne Centurions for whom he was defensive coordinator and then interim head coach. He went to UNH from Kimball Union Academy, where he served as football coach and athletic director.

Check out the crowd photo accompanying the story about Brown starting spring football drills and you'll see why Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens is excited about the prospect of playing a night football game.

As reported on BGA premium, Dartmouth has brought in strength coach Dave Jenkerson to work with the football program. Jenkerson spent several years at Georgia Southern and prior to that was at Valdosta State where he assisted with football training while doing his graduate work. Find his Georgia State bio here. He also spent time as an intern in the Rutgers football program which is overseen by former Dartmouth strength coach Jay Butler, AKA The Big Bopper.

And finally, That Certain Hanover High Graduate slashed seven seconds off her PR in the 1500 yesterday in a meet at the University of New Hampshire. That Certain Hanover High junior, meanwhile, took part in a fundraiser for the Marauder baseball program somewhat dubiously called the 100-Inning Game. Given that it was played indoors with spongy balls, no baserunning and innings that got shorter and shorter as the event went on, it wasn't much of a marathon. In fact, he was done in time to get a little sunburn watching the Dartmouth baseball team's sweep of Cornell.
