One of a Kind

Senior Don Kephart has to be one of the most unique athletes in Division I as a kickoff specialist and shotputter. Here he is at yesterday's Snowflake Classic meet in Medford, Mass. Find his football bio here and his track bio here. Kephart led the Ivies last fall both in kickoff distance (64.4 yards) and touchbacks (6). He was fourth in yesterday's competition.

Bright sun and temperatures nearing 50 today should go a long way toward reducing the snow on the sidelines of Memorial Field just in time for Tuesday's start of spring ball.

Kudos to the two-time defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth baseball team for opening the conference season yesterday with a 6-4, 8-1 sweep of Gehrig Division power Columbia in New York City. The Big Green (12-4, 2-0) plays a pair at Penn today.

If you are going to announce the installation of a purple and gray football field, April 1 may not be the ideal day to do it. But that's when the University of Central Arkansas revealed its plans for an alternating stripe field on its website and on YouTube. Still not certain this wasn't a joke, I found a story in the Log Cabin Democrat newspaper of Conway, Ark.

Green Alert Take: Apparently it's true, but I still think it's a joke.

And finally, That Certain Hanover High Grad was the second of five Dartmouth runners yesterday in the 1500 at the Snowflake Classic in her first outdoor track meet since eighth grade.
