A Little More Backlash

Connecticut's Middletown Press apparently doesn't think much of the Ivy League's initiative to reduce concussions. Commentator Dave Solomon writes:
Concussions need to be addressed, but not like this. Don’t you think when Cornell and Dartmouth play a formidable Colgate program, the Red (sic) Raiders will have an even bigger advantage through practice? How about when Penn plays Villanova? It’s the same with Lafayette and Lehigh against Yale.

Secondly, the new Ivy League report strongly encourages its coaches to teach proper tackling technique. Now there’s a revelation … a coach trying to teach proper fundamentals. Why didn’t anyone think of that before?

With Sacred Heart on the Dartmouth football schedule and Colgate and UNH on the way out, how long will it be until the Big Green schedules Bryant? Admit it, you didn't even know the Rhode Island school was a Division I member. The Sports Network has a primer on Bryant, which Dartmouth has begun playing occasionally in other sports.

For what it's worth, Bryant has been a DI football team in the Northeast Conference for three years while posting a 19-14 record. (Last year the Bulldogs went 7-4 with wins over Fordham, Albany, Sacred Heart, Robert Morris, St. Francis, Merrimack and St. Anselm.)

The Ivy League has started 56 to 56: Countdown to the 2011 Ivy League Football Season with a fun fact each day until the start of the season. (link) For some strange reason the Ivy has decided to toss the facts up on Twitter and Facebook but isn't posting them on its website where many of us non-Facebook adopters go for our Ivy League football information.

And finally, we had a very nice day at York Beach, Maine, yesterday. Chilly doesn't begin to describe the water but at least the wave action was good. After a seafood dinner at Fisherman's Catch in Wells we scooted home to Cooper the Wonder Dog, who characteristically refused to go outside until he ate ;-)
