To The Max

Former quarterback Max Heiges '10 came to Dartmouth as a promising artist and moved toward sculpture while at the college. He was commissioned to create a minimalist work that can now be found in a Hanover garden. One of his more whimsical sculptures can be seen here and there's a short story about his studio art studies here.

Dartmouth's Shawn Abuhoff has been chosen the first-team All-America preseason punt returner by a site called College Sports Madness.

The only other Ivy Leaguer to gain mention on the CSM All-America team was Penn's Brandon Copeland, named to the third team at defensive tackle. Colgate running back Nate Eachus was chosen to the first team.

Abuhoff is also on the CSM preseason All-Ivy first team along with Nick Schwieger, tight end John Gallagher and offensive linemen Ryan O'Neill and Austen Fletcher. Abuhoff is chosen as the Ivy League's preseason defensive player of the year.

Joining the Dartmouth football staff this year is Mike Bruno, assistant director of football operations/video coordinator. Bruno, who steps in for the departed Chris Feller, played college football at St. Lawrence where as a senior he earned the team's Ironman Award after making 59 tackles, breaking up four passes and picking off one.

A 2009 St. Lawrence grad, Bruno went on to serve as an assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, helping out with the defensive line and serving as special teams coordinator. Find his WPI bio here.

Bruno comes from Westport, Conn., where he played for the Staples High Wreckers. If anyone has questions about whether he's someone who will do whatever it takes to get the job done, check out this photo from his high school days ;-)

Fun times for golf fans in these parts as Woodstock, Vt's Keegan Bradley – who I wrote about in his high school days – shares the lead at the midway point of the final major of the year, the PGA Championship. link

A reminder that the Brown preview has been posted on BGA premium and a complete look at Columbia will go up Monday. There will be previews each weekday until the start of practice and then full, newspaper-length-plus stories every day until the end of the season, seven days a week. That includes not just coverage of every game – home and away – but every practice. To sign up or learn more about BGA, click here.
