Cornell coach Kent Austin updated as he speaks . . .
Most key players except Emani Fenton back. Good spring, huge improvement in weight room. Came out of spring healthy. Excited about rectg. class, a handful will get on field if not starting. Young again this year.
Should be a lot more competitive. Ahead of last year.
Special teams a strong point. Great kicker in Brad Greenway.
Biggest adjustment from major college football is difference in atmosphere. Knew that. Didn't come for the atmosphere.
QB Jeff Mathews is one of most outstanding individuals he has been around. First-class person, dropped 10 lbs, much stronger. Understands game at a different level now. Reads much faster. Ball out of hand faster. Better decision making. Accurate and strong. Think is best pure passer in the league, admitted biased. Shored up offensive line which should be better. Has become a natural leader. Guys respect him.
Able to do more with Mathews this year. Started 33 rookies last year. Able to grow package on both sides of ball. Mathews a beneficiary of that on the offensive side.
Change in Ivy contact rules will favor teams with juniors and seniors. But not a huge impact.
