Ivy Media Day Update 7

Harvard's Tim Murphy . . .

2011 season chance to be one of most competitive top to bottom. Obvious reason QB's back. But also, not just QBs but almost all All-Ivy QB.

Teams that struggled last year could be most improved. Cornell and Princeton will be vastly improved.

We've been solid for a while. Goal same as every year, to win title. Bottom line, Penn was terrific last year and did what needed.

Our strength initially on defense lot back. Josue Ortiz and John Lyon. Ortiz might have been best def. in league last year.

Linebackers solid and experienced. Four of top players back in secondary.

Offensive talent every area. Collier Winters a real plus. Losing Gino Gordon usually tough but Treavor Scales does some stuff even better.

OL has perhaps best prospect since Birk in Kevin Murphy. Draftable.

WR some big, strong fast kids. One of best TE prospects in a long time.

Brown will be tremendous, as good as anyone in league with skill guys, QB and defense. Best Yale team in a long, long time. Best Dartmouth team in long, long time.

Penn was best defensive team in league last year. Stats don't tell whole story but most important one is scoring defense. Win that title and you'll be in it at end. Also did a great job running ball. Penn should be able to open up offense this year with more experience for QB.

Night games in first half of the season are a no-brainer because of enthusiasm, added crowds.

Collier Winters knows offense as much as any Qb he's had. Tough kid. Can make plays with feet. Good decisions. All QB's did good job last year but when Collier came back they played well down stretch.

On the postseason prohibition: Is Harvard-Yale part of the season for it? I would vote for it in a heartbeat. Why? Best thing for league and student-athletes. 41 teams at Harvard, 40 can go on. Difficult to make argument status quo is fair and equitable.

Still, Harvard-Yale doesn't get any better than that. Coached in playoffs at Maine. Would be great for league. Still, wouldn't be bigger than H-Y with 35,000-60,000 and an Ivy championship on line. Again, would vote for it in a heartbeat simply because it is the best thing for the league.

Any down side to night games? Doesn't think so. Baseball, hockey, basketball play more games, travel more. Almost not even a factor.
