Craig Haley of The Sports Network has a story about former Holy Cross great Gordie Lockbaum, the last well-known two-way player. (We used to joke that Gordie had only to throw his helmet on the field against Dartmouth and he'd get credit for a tackle.) At the end of the TSN story there are the following picks for this weekend:Dartmouth over ColgateThe Sports Network's FCS assistant Sean Shapiro has capsules on a number of games including four featuring Ivy League teams. His predictions for those four games:
Penn over Lafayette
Yale over Georgetown
Stony Brook over Brown
Fordham over Columbia
Bucknell over Cornell
Holy Cross over Harvard
Lehigh over Princeton
Columbia 24, Fordham 17
Harvard 27, Holy Cross 17

Dartmouth tailback Nick Schwieger did a nice job with his interview on the new radio show Ivy Insider last night but the hosts missed a golden opportunity. To their credit, they asked Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris about the possibility of Ivy teams going to the playoffs. Her answer, which I've heard before, was that it is "not on the agenda" right now.At that point the hosts should have asked, "Can you please explain to us the rationale for not allowing football teams to compete in the postseason like every other Ivy League sport?" Now that would have been good radio ;-)

The Philadelphia Inquirer has a story under the headline: Penn welcomes the pressure of being No. 1. From the story:(Quarterback Billy) Ragone rushed for 548 yards and seven scores as he averaged more than 6 yards per carry. The junior sees that as a benchmark; he and (Coach Al) Bagnoli say Ragone can improve on those rushing numbers.
"It's definitely something I think I can excel in," said Ragone. "It puts the defense in a little bit of a predicament as far as having one more guy to worry about."

While some people question the talent of Yale quarterback Patrick Witt, he is the only one of the eight starting quarterbacks returning in the Ivy League this year to have had scouts from the Patriots, Giants, Jets, Panthers, Browns, Redskins (twice), Bengals, Bucs, Texans, Jaguars, Rams, 49ers, Falcons and Cardinals stop by practice to take a look at him. And the season hasn't yet begun. Portal 31 reports.*
The Yale Daily has a story on defensive end Austin Pulsipher, the rare married Ivy League player. Pulsipher, 23, took two years off from his studies – and football – to go on a Mormon mission.YDN also has a piece on Chris Smith, an All-Ivy pick both as a receiver and a kick returner last year.

The Daily Princeton comes to life with a story about the Tiger fortunes being build around returning quarterback Tommy Wornham. There's also a DP story on linebacker Steve Cody, back from a broken leg.*
Brown's "Interactive football magazine" is up. There's a download option, which I was pleased about – only to discover it isn't Mac compatible.*
Kudos to Penn for posting a PDF of its fact book. (link) It's something every Ivy League school should do.*
Back to the Daily Pennsylvanian for a story about the Ivy League's southernmost outpost getting a bubble for winter practices.Green Alert Take: What's wrong with this picture? (No, not the one with the story. The idea that the league's southernmost school has joined Harvard in going ahead with a bubble.)

Week Two opponent Sacred Heart has posted its game notes for Saturday's game against Bryant.*
The Omaha World-Herald has a story about former Dartmouth defensive assistant (not coordinator as the story says) Joe Moglia set for his first game as the head coach of the Omaha UFL team. Given that Moglia is the big cheese at TD Ameritrade, the writer floats a funny question:This is really a weird episode of "Undercover Boss," right?
