Game Day

Week Two opponent Sacred Heart fell to 0-2 last night with a 26-6 loss to Bryant. The Pioneers began the season with a huge question at quarterback with the graduation of Dale Fink and last night did nothing to supply an answer as Sacred Heart was a woeful 16-of-42 for 157 yards passing with two interceptions. The Dartmouth running backs will be licking their chops after seeing that Bryant's Jordan Brown carried 38 times for 248 yards in the game. Find the box score and recap here.

It's not much but The Sports Network has quick blurb about the "late-starting Ivy League teams."

Harvard's WHRB radio picks Dartmouth to win, 23-21, with this curious statement:
This is the last chance for head coach Buddy Teevans to take his mature, experienced team to an Ivy League title.

Check out Jake Novak's picks on his Roar Lions Roar blog. Of Dartmouth he says, "I like their chances . . ."

By the way, I love the juxtaposition of headline and lede in this Brown Daily Herald story. Italics are mine.
Headline: Season begins under Friday night lights
Lede: After a nearly 10-month hiatus, the football team is set to take the field for the first time in 2011 Saturday at Stony Brook.
I know what they are saying but it did panic for a second, thinking I missed the score of that game.

Kudos to the Daily Pennsylvanian for having an in depth football preview section here.

Former defensive back/lacrosse standout Brian White is a successful actor, dancer and model these days. Check out Five questions (or more) with Brian White. It's not really clear in the story but while White '95, went to camp with the New England Patriots, he was not on the regular-season roster.

It was 39 degrees here on the mountain when Coop and I went out at 7 for the paper. The game-time temperature is for about 60 degrees at kickoff.

Be sure to check Green Alert Premium tonight for a game story and a sidebar. BGA will have a follow story on the Colgate game tomorrow as well as coverage of the junior varsity game against Middlebury Sunday.
