Purdy As A Picture

If you come by this space regularly you've seen occasional photos looking out over the world from here on the shoulder of Moose Mountain. Today for a change of pace, a look at what's behind us – the rest of the mountain. I remember asking the town appraiser one time if we cleared trees to open up the view to the ridge behind us (that's not our view, unfortunately), would it prove costly at tax time? He said no, pointed across the road, and said, "That's the view people want." Unfortunately, while we get a peek at the view to the right at the end of our driveway, we have to cross the dirt road and walk around a summer neighbor's barn to get the full view, which on the clearest days gives us a view of trails on five Vermont ski mountains. We are a little under eight miles from campus.

ESPN Recruiting has "scouting reports" on four of Dartmouth's incoming freshmen so far. While the full reports are available only to ESPN Insiders, there's enough available on these teaser pages to make them worth checking out:

Tight end Jack Sheehy

Safety Frankie Hernandez

Tailback Brian Grove

Quarterback Thomas Militello

Keeping in mind the saying, "A rising tide lifts all boats," it's good for the Ivy League if Columbia offensive tackle Jeff Adams has a strong East-West Shrine Game. The Roar Lions 2012 blog linked to a columnist who wrote that, ". . . this is the best coaching Adams has ever gotten and apparently he soaked it up like a sponge. He was stoning defenders in the Wednesday practice and looked like a solid mid-round developmental prospect."

Dartmouth-Harvard men's basketball tonight at Leede Arena in front of an anticipated sellout crowd that will include a group of potential recruits.

Keep Princeton freshman Chuck Dibilio and his family in your prayers. The Trenton Times has more details on the standout running back being hospitalized for a stroke.

Sometimes dreams really do come true. Back when That Certain Hanover High Senior was a little guy you could sneak into a certain college football stadium during the summer if you found an open gate. Just about ever since this picture was snapped he dreamed of returning, and the difficulties at Penn State never dissuaded him. Checking his online college application status he learned yesterday that he'll be in the stands with 108,000 or so of his closest friends on Saturday afternoons for the next four years. He'll be joining his old man and Mrs. BGA's father as a Nittany Lion.
