Set For Signing Day

If you are curious about the "star" recruit ratings, check out this story. Warning: It gave me a headache ;-)

The Miami Herald has a story about "up to five" players from St. Thomas Aquinas opting to continue their studies – and their football careers – at Ivy League schools. Among them: Vernon Harris, who chose Dartmouth over Brown according to the paper. (See last night's BGA blog.) From the story:
Harris, who chose Dartmouth for its engineering program, made his decision Sunday night. The cornerback finished with 28 tackles and two interceptions last year. He originally met Dartmouth’s coaches during the spring when they visited his house. Until then, an Ivy League school never really seemed like a possibility.

“It really piqued my interest a little bit,” Harris said. “And then actually getting the chance to go up and visit, I got to see how great of an academic institution it is combined with great athletics.”

The Palm Beach Post has a story about locals headed to the Ivy League and the challenges they face. Included in the story are the Dartmouth-bound duo of running back Brian Grove and tight end Jack Sheehy. Sheehy told the paper:
"I went to the Dartmouth-Columbia game this fall. The guys were much bigger and more physical than I expected. I think it's right up there with the rest of regular D-I football."

The Ladue-Frontenac Patch from Missouri has a story in advance of "Signing Day" about the "Top Football Prospect in America." No, he's not headed to Dartmouth but there is a mention deep in the story about quarterback Thomas Militello choosing Dartmouth, a teammate choosing Brown, and another local choosing Dartmouth for swimming.

Militello is also quoted in a St. Louis High School Sports.com story about St. Louis area quarterbacks taking "different but related" paths to signing day.

From the story:
Militello committed to Dartmouth in the fall after attracting interest from Southern Illinois, Cornell and Columbia, among others.

"Some schools didn't take a quarterback or were saying they weren't going to take one until the very end, and I wanted to get it over with quick," Militello said. "For me, education was a big thing. Once you get one offer, you kind of have a bargaining chip with other places. So once I got Columbia and SIU, Dartmouth came in."

This has been around for a bit but here's an interview with Kyle Bramble, the tailback from Floyd Central High School in Indiana who will be at Dartmouth in the fall:

Bramble make ESPN prep headlines last fall for scoring six touchdowns and piling up 310 yards in his second game on his way to leading Indiana in scoring.

The Morning Call has another story on the progress of Princeton freshman running back Chuck Dibilio that again includes his thoughts on possibly returning to football after suffering a stroke.

Once more with feeling: Folks, I can't find 'em all. There are perhaps 10 more recruits I haven't identified yet. If you see something on the 'Net or in your local paper, you can click on the "contact me" link over there to the left (right under the "Donat"e button) and send along a name/link anonymously if you'd like. Thanks.
