Nice ... And Not So Nice

The pastel palate thanks to last night's snow
Woke up this morning to a light and beautiful covering of snow up here on the shoulder of Moose Mountain. The Baker Tower webcam shows a decidedly different view down in the valley.

While Dartmouth is slated to kick off spring ball one week from tomorrow, Penn has already wrapped up its spring schedule. From the Penn website:
Running back Spencer Kulcsar ran for two touchdowns and quarterback Billy Ragone was 10-of-12 passing for 144 yards and two more touchdowns as the offense scored six times during the 2012 Spring Game Saturday at historic Franklin Field.

The neatly redesigned Brown Bear Blogger site takes issue with a comment out of Princeton that the Tigers' Akil Sharp is "perhaps the fastest runner in the Ivy League." BBB notes that Bear tailback John Spooney won the 2011 Heps championships in the 100 meters (10.64) and 200 meters (21.31).

And finally, I remember blogging a few years ago about how the financial aid policies of some Ivy League schools made it possible for a qualified kid from North Dakota to go Ivy for less money than to attend his or her own state university. We haven't found that to be the case for us, but the far, far greater shock came at the end of last week when we got the financial aid read from my old school for That Certain Hanover High Senior. Call me naive (and I've been called worse), but I never expected that with two in college at the same time the already difficult financial burden on us would be more than doubled.

It saddens me greatly to write this, but after a few sleepless nights I'm left to rethink this.
