Tough Loss

He already has a Washington State email address and title (Recruiting and Operations Assistant) and now FootballScoop, Coaching Search and CougCenter are all reporting that Dartmouth receivers coach Jarrail Jackson is joining Mike Leach's staff at Washington State. CougCenter has the most detailed look at the long-rumored move and what it means for WSU.

What it means for Dartmouth is losing the coach responsible for revolutionizing recruiting in Oklahoma. The former Sooner standout has turned the state into a hotbed for Big Green talent with no fewer than eight players from the state on the projected 2012 roster. Dartmouth used to go years between recruits from Oklahoma.

Add in Jackson's connections in his native Texas, not to mention what he brought to the field as wide receivers coach, and he will be sorely missed.
The Sports Network's look at top players at various positions in the FCS shifts to special teams where Brown's AJ Cruz is listed as one of the 10 best in the nation. The story notes that Cruz' 31.2-yard kickoff return average last year (second in the country) included an 83-yarder for a score the the loss to Dartmouth.
Our top-seeded Green Machine Cal Ripken baseball team began defense of its north division championship last night with a 12-0 win in the opening round of the playoffs. The Green Machine, which hasn't lost a regular-season game in three years, is back in action tomorrow evening.
