A Couple Of Names

A couple of familiar names in the news . . .

Dartmouth played Colgate for three of the four years that bruising tailback Nate Eachus was on the Raider roster and never saw him carry the ball because he was still at linebacker the first season, a scheduled game against Colgate was dropped in favor of Bucknell one year, and he was injured the other two.

Undrafted despite rushing for 4,485 yards and 53 touchdowns for Colgate, the 5-foot-10, 212-pound Eachus has been the Kansas City Chiefs' leading ground gainer in the preseason, carrying 13 times for 107 yards and one touchdown in two games. Against Seattle last week he carried 10 times for 98 yards.

He's still considered a longshot to make the regular-season roster but Eachus is hanging around. He'll be on the field tonight when the Chiefs travel to Green Bay to play the Packers in a game to be aired on the NFL Network at 7 p.m. Eastern.
Interestingly, on the other side of the field in Eachus' last game was Seattle rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, who has been named the Seahawks' starter. Wilson is the son of the late Harry Wilson '77, who played football and baseball at Dartmouth and went to camp with the San Diego Chargers. Check out Russell Wilson's impressive highlights from last week's game here.
Sacred Heart's game notes for the Pioneers' game at Morgan State have been posted here. There's a video interview with interim head coach Mark Nofri at the end of the notes.
Practice No. 11 of the Dartmouth preseason is on tap for this afternoon and, you guessed it, there will be full coverage on BGA Premium. If you haven't signed up yet you are going to have a lot of catching up to do.

This was another one of those mornings up here on Moose Mountain when Cooper the Wonder Dog and I head down the driveway to get the paper and I tell him I've got to run back inside and get the camera. A heavy blanket of river fog clings to the valley floor in this picture. On campus and around town cars have their headlights on and the Dartmouth players may be wondering what kind of day it is going to be as they prepare for meetings. Up here there's blue sky and sunshine ;-)
