Same Old, Same Old

The Boston Globe's Ivy League preview has been posted. The capsules are in the order of projected finish – not the Globe's order but the way the Ivy League-sanctioned media poll picked the teams. That poll, like so many others, picked Dartmouth sixth.
Yale's top playmaker will miss the season. Chris Smith, a double All-Ivy pick at receiver and kick returner, is out for personal reasons according to the New Haven Register. Find Smith's bio here.

Green Alert Take: The loss of Smith is a huge blow for an offense that has a solid running back in Mordecai Cargill, an exciting prospect in running back Tyler Varga and a huge question mark at quarterback where untested John Whitelaw has been battling with two freshmen to replace the graduated Patrick Witt.
Several readers have shared the link to a lengthy and very interesting Grantland story on Joe Moglia, the TD Ameritrade CEO who has taken over as head coach at Coastal Carolina. Moglia's last station as a college coach was at Dartmouth.
The Sports Network has its picks for Week One of the college football season and it has all three of Dartmouth's non-league opponents losing. Holy Cross will play host to New Hampshire and Butler will be at Western Illinois on Thursday. Sacred Heart plays at Morgan State Saturday. Can't find game notes yet for Sacred Heart (really?) but Butler's notes are here. Matt Lancaster, the transfer from Illinois State, is listed as the starting quarterback.
As has been rumored, Rhode Island is backing off its decision to join the Northeast Conference and will instead continue to play football with the big boys on the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
The second double-session of camp is slated for today. Check BGA Premium in early afternoon for coverage of the morning session. There will be another full report tonight on the afternoon practice. And remember, if you forgot your password or username, there's a link on the site to recover them.
