Uh Oh?

Morgan State isn't exactly a powerhouse and Sacred Heart didn't win, but what happened yesterday in Baltimore might make Dartmouth fans a little nervous anyway.

Visiting Sacred Heart, which will play in Hanover on Oct. 13, took Morgan State to four overtimes before dropping a 30-27 decision. The Pioneers racked up 441 yards of offense and had almost 11 extra minutes of possession time before losing on a field goal. Sacred Heart had the gamewinning field goal in the third OT blocked by the Bears, voted seventh in the 11-team MEAC preseason poll. Find a game story here and the statistics here.
Digging up those stories I came across the NEC standings and was astonished to see Sacred Heart listed second after dropping its opener. Then I noticed something odd. Yes, the NEC is an up-and-coming conference, but apart from Albany beating Colgate, 40-23, every team in the league lost its opener.

A college quarterback throwing for 736 yards in a game? Eureka! Actually, Eureka College's Sam Durley turned the trick in a 62-55 win over Knox. Durley may end up being the second-most famous alum of the Illinois college. You know who the first is, right?
Later today on BGA Premium, a thorough overview of the Dartmouth defense with coordinator Don Dobes.
That Certain Older Hanover High Grad is headed back from the Mt. Moosilauke Lodge today after co-leading a "strenuous" Hiking 4 trip for the Dartmouth Class of 2016. She's due back this afternoon only to hop in the car a few hours later and have us drive her to suburban Boston where she will spend the night at a friend's house. Tomorrow morning she flies to Calgary to begin the Stretch Program offered by the college's Earth Sciences department. She's been living out of her backpack for the past four days, which is good practice because she'll essentially be living out of a pack for the next 2 1/2 months in the Rockies. The program includes field work ranging Canadian glaciers to Death Valley.

That Certain Younger Hanover High Grad saw his first football game as a college freshman in Not-So Happy Valley yesterday and it's safe to say it didn't turn out the way he had hoped. To be honest, the other guys would have put up a pretty good fight even before what one web site I read has taken to calling, The Thing.
