Tripling Up

Dartmouth-bound Danny McManus of St. Thomas Academy in Minnesota was the KARE 11 Athlete of the Week. The video and story may be accessed here.
An eagle-eyed subscriber emailed that the three McManus brothers would join another trio of brothers in playing football at Dartmouth. While tight end Adam Young '96, was the star of the family – earning a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New York Giants' practice squad – older brother Oge '96 earned one letter and younger brother Ben '03 also suited up for the Big Green.

From The Dartmouth about Sunday's Hero Half Marathon in Hanover :
Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth’s seventh annual Hero Half Marathon and Ripcord 5K raised more than $570,000 and saw participation of more than 2,800 runners and volunteers ...
The latest Gridiron Power Index numbers are out and they suggest Dartmouth's three Ivy League games have come against the three weakest teams in the Ivies. Fact or fiction?

24. Harvard (22.71)
45. Princeton (37.43)
58. Brown (49.00)
68. Cornell (56.00)
80T. Dartmouth (63.14)
89. Penn (70.57)
100. Yale (78.14)
106. Columbia (81.57)
In last night's Green Alert Premium, coach Buddy Teevens explained why, with great regret, he made the decision to cancel the traditional junior varsity game against Harvard. Injuries, a bit of attrition and young players contributing to the varsity combined to leave the Big Green shorthanded. The one position in particular where Dartmouth can ill afford injury is quarterback, where Alex Park, Dalyn Williams and Thomas Militello are the only available bodies. Why is that a problem?

Consider what has happened at Yale where all three quarterbacks – actually two freshmen and a wide receiver working at QB – are day-to-day after being hurt against Penn according to Portal 31. The New Haven Register's blog notes that a junior wide receiver who was recruited as a quarterback could be pressed into service if need be.
Those of you who have been stopping by this electronic precinct for a while know I'm not a huge fan of having a color as a nickname. My vote would be to go with the Dartmouth North Stars if I had a vote, which I don't ;-(

Besides branding, there's another reason why a color is a poor nickname. As simple as it is, people get it wrong. A headline from Dartmouth receiver Kirby Schoenthaler's hometown paper:
Schoenthaler continues to contribute to Green Wave success,
From a USA Today story, of all places:
This was a big game for the Bulldogs and Mean Green, with both teams starting 0-1 in Ivy League play.
