Didn't You Used To Be . . .

A couple of emailers dug this one up . . .

All-time Dartmouth rushing leader Nick Schwieger '12 is working out as a "guest" with the USA Rugby 7s.  RugbyMag writes that Schwieger, "is new to rugby, but has the potential to become a major offensive threat if he can translate his defender-beating ability to rugby."

Schwieger went to camp last summer with the St. Louis Rams.

The USA7s are coached by former Dartmouth player and coach Alex Magleby '00. The story says Schwieger, "was recruited to rugby in part by former Big Green rugby stars Chris and Nick Downer – Nick is now working in San Diego and assisting Magleby in player tracking in his free time."

Dartmouth rugby player Madison Hughes '15 is also working with the team.
Potential recruits in town had their choice of exciting Dartmouth venues yesterday. On a campus buzzing with thousands of high school athletes in town for the Dartmouth Relays there was one of the most exciting basketball games in years at Leede Arena (the Big Green led Harvard by five points relatively late before falling by 10), a women's hockey win also in the afternoon and a men's hockey win over Harvard before more than 4,000 fans at Thompson Arena at night.

Among high school seniors reported on the Internet as visiting were 6-5, 290 offensive tackle Zach Davis of Lake Havasu, Ariz., who tweeted he is holding an offer, Garrett Strohmaier, a 6-2, 280 offensive guard from Jesuit HS in Carmichael, Calif., and Alex McCrory, a Springfield, Ohio running back/linebacker listed variously at 6-1, 235 and 5-11 1/2-222. He posted this picture of the Dartmouth weight room.
Former Cornell head coach Jim Knowles is a highly regarded candidate for the head coach opening at Delaware according to Delaware Online.
From Bloomberg News:

Undergraduate applications rose at Columbia University and Stanford University, while they declined at Dartmouth College, as elite schools begin to tally admissions data for the class that begins in the 2013-2014 academic year.
